Privacy notice for leaflet recipients

Last updated: July 2026

Received a leaflet and want it to stop? Add your address to our do-not-mail list at planningleads.uk/no-mail, or contact us (see “Your rights” below). We will not send you any further mail.

1. Why you received a leaflet

A planning application was filed at your property. Planning applications are published on your local council's planning register as a matter of public record. We identified a local building firm — a PlanLeads customer covering your area — whose services match the type of work in that application, and posted you a single leaflet on their behalf so you can contact them if you wish. There is no obligation to do so.

2. Who we are

PlanLeads is a trading name of PLANLEADS LIMITED, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17196280), registered office 12 Iris Avenue, Glen Parva, Leicester, England, LE2 9JJ. We are the data controller for the personal data described here. Contact us at support@planningleads.uk.

3. What data we use — and what we don't

To send the leaflet we use only your property address, taken from the public planning register, together with the description and type of the planning application. We deliberately keep this to a minimum:

  • We do not store your name — leaflets are addressed to “The Homeowner”.
  • We do not hold your email address, phone number, or any other contact detail.
  • We do not sell, share, or publish your data, and we do not build a profile of you.

4. Where the data comes from

Your local council's public planning register, which we access under the Open Government Licence v3.0 or with the council's permission. See our data sources page for the councils we use.

5. Our legal basis

We rely on legitimate interests under Article 6(1)(f) of the UK GDPR — our interest, and that of local building firms, in reaching homeowners who have an active, publicly-recorded building project with a relevant, local service. We have weighed this against your interests and privacy: we use public-record data only, hold no name or contact details, send at most one leaflet per planning application, and give you a clear and easy way to opt out. Postal marketing of this kind does not require your prior consent, but you have an absolute right to object (see below).

6. Who we share it with

We share your property address with our print-and-mail provider (Stannp) solely to print and post the leaflet. We do not share it with anyone else. The building firm named on the leaflet does not receive your address from us.

7. How long we keep it

Planning-application records are refreshed from the public register and retained only while relevant to the service. If you opt out, we keep the minimum record of your address needed to make sure we do not mail you again.

8. Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to object to this processing, and rights of access, rectification, and erasure. In particular:

If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
